Methods of Colonization - Residential Schools

The Residential School system aimed to eliminate the cultures, languages, and identities of Indigenous peoples. The schools were run by the government in partnership with religious organizations including the Catholic, Anglican, Presbyterian, and United churches. Residential Schools operated in Canada from 1831 to 1996. The impacts of the Residential School system are still being felt by families and communities today.
